Catholics in the Diocese of Chikwawa have been urged to live their lives as a true family of God by caring for one another, especially those who are sick.

His Lordship Rt Rev Peter Musikuwa, Bishop of the Diocese, made the call today, 13th February 2026, at the celebration of World Day for the Sick at St Kalemba Community Hospital.

The Bishop read the message from the Malawi Conference of Catholic Bishops (MCCB), through Bishop Montfort Sitima who is the bishop chairman for the Health Commission.

“The Gospel recounts the story of a man attacked by robbers and left wounded on the roadside. Moved by compassion, a Samaritan tended to his injuries, carried him to an inn, and paid for his care; a timeless model of mercy, solidarity, and love for one’s neighbor. The story reminds Christians that true love is expressed through concrete action, especially in caring for those who are sick, vulnerable, or marginalized.” Reads the message.

Celebrated under the theme “The compassion of the Samaritan, loving by bearing another person’s pain” the Diocese of Chikwawa held the event at Kalemba Community Hospital which is being run by Sisters of Our Lay of Amersfoort.

The Catholic Church celebrates the World Day for the Sick every 11th February every year.
