Youths in the Diocese have been invited to this year’s Vocations Sunday celebrations with a special appeal to them to take this opportunity to exhibit their faith as pilgrims of hope.
The office of the Diocesan Youth Chaplaincy has extended this invitation through a letter addressed to all parish priests school administrators and youths in the Diocese.
The announcement states that the celebration will begin with its launch on 15th March 2026 at St Kalemba – Bangula parish, with its climax to be celebrated at the same venue on 26th April 2026. Both celebrations with begin with Eucharistic celebration starting from 9 AM.
The Youth Chaplain for the Diocese, Fr Stanford Sungani has since reminded all who are to attend the celebrations to prepare their own meals and transport logistics. He further advises that youths must avoid the use of open vehicles in adherence to the Diocesan policy.
Vocations Sunday celebrations are held every year to help young people reflect on their calling in the Church offering them space and time to make informed choices about their lives.

Priests and religious have been asked to remain one with Christ and one another if they are to carry out a successful mission in the Church. The call was made by Bishop Musikuwa during the celebration of the Pontifical Missionary Union at St. Michael’s Cathedral on Saturday, 7th February 2026. In his homily, the Bishop recalled how Joseph and Mary collaborated with God’s will by taking the infant Jesus to the temple to present him. He thus said that these are an example to all missions: they should be united with Christ, but also with one another. Speaking on behalf of all priests, Fr Lazalous Maloya, who is the chairperson for the local clergy in the Diocese, pleaded with the clergy and the religious to cherish the unity that exists among them and leverage it for the mission they all undertake. The celebrated climaxed with the celebration of mass followed by lunch. There are no religious congregation for priests in the Diocese of Chikwawa. However, there are six congregations for sisters in the Diocese.

Choirs have been called upon to be agents of God’s mercy through their songs as they prepare for the Diocesan Choir Festival later this year. The remarks were made during the official launch of the festival marked by Eucharistic celebration at St Mathews Parish in Nchalo. Honorable Francis Folley, Deputy Minister of Education, who is also a legislator for Nsanje North, made the call when speaking to a large group of choirs that assembled for the function. Hon Folley unveiled a total package of 10 million Malawi Kwacha competition for the choirs, revealing that the theme for the festival is “God’s mercy is boundless”. Beaming with joy, Diocesan Laity Council Chairman, Mr John Nyaika, expressed gratitude to Hon Folley for this gift to the church and urged all choirs to grab this opportunity just as they would gladly take musical classes. During the festival, choirs will prepare two sacred songs, one about God’s Mercy and then song number 38 from the catholic hymn book. The competition will run from February 14 to April 6, 2026, with prizes in 4 categories of best choir, best women choir, best keyboardist and best choir conductor.

The Diocese of Chikwawa will hold celebrations for the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord on Saturday, 7th February 2026. The celebration, which joins all men and women who consecrated their lives to serving God, will be done conjointly with the commemoration of Pastoral Missionary Union, PMU. The Office of the Diocesan Pastoral Secretary announced in a letter dated 27th January 2026. The celebration will be held at St Michael’s Cathedral from 9 AM. All the faithful in the Diocese are encouraged to come.
