2nd Sunday of Ordinary Time
Behold the Lamb of God
Readings: Isaiah 49:3, 5-6; 1 Cor 1:1-3; John 1:29-34
We are being reminded of our vocation as the baptized.
This Sunday, which proceeds from the celebration of the solemnity of the baptism of Jesus, reminds us that just as his baptism catapulted his mission, we are called to live our calling as the baptized. John the Baptist announces Christ to his audience as the Lamb of God. This shows that Christ’s mission is to be the Lamb of God. This draws to us memories of the Passover experience, where the lamb and its blood sprinkled on its door posts saving them from the angel of death.
This is a reminder to us that all of us are called to this mission. We are supposed to be lambs in our everyday life. All of us in our vocations, must live as lambs, ready to sacrifice for the sake of our calling. We are all baptized to become lambs, to sacrifice so as to bring the salvation to all. This is cemented by Isaiah in the first reading where all Israel is given the calling as suffering servant. They were called to shine to the world out of their suffering or miserable situation.
Let us all offer our very selves as lambs of sacrifice. In our efforts to live our Christian calling, we must al be ready to suffer.
Have a blessed Sunday and week ahead!
