5th Sunday of Lent
Go and sin no more!
Isaiah 43:16-21; Philippians 3:8-14; John 8:1-11
As we draw closer to the passion of Jesus, the message during this period gets deeper. By the act of scribes and pharisees bringing an adulterous woman, Christ sends to all of us a message of renewal. He tells the woman, neither do I condemn you, but go and sin no more.
In the first reading, Isaiah brings a message of hope to the jews. He calls on the to leave behind the old glory days and focus on Gods salvation. He tells them to forget the past and be born anew.
Paul in the second reading gives a living example of humility and true conversion, where he considers all the past glory days as gone and his only pride is in faith in Jesus and by sharing his suffering. Christ himself was the epitome of humility as he disregarded his divinity in order to embrace our humanity to save us.
Christ in the Gospel invites the woman to leave her dark sinful past behind and start a new life. By commanding her to sin no more, he calls her to conversion and live a new life of being saved by God.
On our part, we need to help each other in our failings. We desist from being judgmental and start feeling for our sinful brothers and sisters.
Happy Sunday to all.
