Third Sunday of Easter
Readings: Acts 5:27-32, 40-41; Rev5:11-14; John21:1-19
The need to listen to God’s voice
We continue to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus. Indeed he is risen and has triumphed over death. But we celebrate as witnesses. Our celebration will mean nothing if we do not witness to this event with our lives.
Our readings today show that we will only witness to this act by listening to God’s word.
Peter and the other apostles are being cautioned not to preach the risen Lord. In his response, Peter shows that only obedience to God that comes by listening to his word stands as the ultimate command to follow and nothing else.
By listening to Jesus call for them into the whole world and proclaim the good news, the apostles stands firm in their resolve to witness to Christ.
However, just as Christ and them, witness brings suffering and persecution. In giving heed to Christ to bear our cross and follow him, we will keep witnessing even in the face of death.
We pray that we may all draw strength to witness through listening to His word as God speaks to us in various ways.
Have a blessed Sunday.
