First Sunday of Lent: Fighting temptation
Readings: Deut 2:4-10; Rom 10:8-13: Luke 4:1-13
Today, the first Sunday of Lent, we encounter Jesus who withdraws to a lonely place to prepare himself for his incoming mission. As he tries to ready and prepare himself for this task, Satan comes in to test him. Through the three temptations, Satan tries to deviate Jesus from his mission. Christ, aware of his mission overcomes the temptations before him.
Just like Christ, we who are his followers face temptations in as far as we strive to live holy lives. However, unlike Jesus, many of us fall in the path of temptations and resign to their seduction.
The word of God today is an encouragement to us that we can fight temptation with the help Jesus. We are all endowed with power to overcome temptation and with the help of Christ, we can all defeat temptations and make this Lenten season into a journey to obtain salvation.
Happy first Sunday of lent to you all.
