8th Sunday in Ordinary time
Take out the log in your eye first
First Reading: Sir 27:1-7, 1Cor 15:54-58, Luke 6:39-45
Our Lord today calls us to reflect on our hypocrisy. In the idiom of two men trying to notice evil in another, a vivid example is given depicting our tendency to single out faults in others while we ourselves are guilty of the same or a far much bigger fault.
In criticizing this tendency the Lord wants us to reflect on our lives as we journey in this spiritual life and so avoid being judgmental on others. This hypocrisy hinders our own spiritual growth and we remain in our wickedness since we have no time to see the good in others rather their weaknesses.
Let us pray that we may all acknowledge that we are weak and spend time reflecting on our lives which will lead to our full conversion.
